Abstract
To report direct and indirect retinal manifestations seen in patients following severe COVID-19 infection in otherwise immunocompetent individuals. A detailed retrospective review of consecutive patients presenting with retinal manifestations attributable to COVID 19 between May 2020 till June 2021. 20 eyes of 17 patients were included. All patients had a confirmed Covid-19 RTPCR and recovered days to maximum 6 weeks. Systemic workup for other relevant causes were negative. The various manifestations included vascular events such as venous stasis retinopathy, central retinal vein occlusion (unilateral/bilateral), branch retinal artery occlusion and AION. Also opportunistic infections like endogenous endophthalmitis, candedimia retinitis, subretinal abscess in orbital mucormycosis were seen. Retinal Involvement following COVID 19 is rare but it’s important to be aware of the spectrum of diseases a patient can manifest with emphasis on fundus examination in patients with visual symptoms.
