Abstract

AIM: To evaluate and compare effectiveness of binocular iPad game and Patching therapy (standard care at present) for treatment of Amblyopia.

METHOD : a prospective, observational study was carried out in 20 amblyopic patients, ranging from 4-8 years of age. 2 groups were made with 10 in each; Group A was advised for binocular ipad adventure game therapy and Group B for patching treatment. BCVA (Best corrected visual acuity) was assessed at 3rd and 6th week follow up visits.

RESULT: Out of 20 children, 5 (25%) were female. Mean age at first visit was 6 ± 4 months. BCVA obtained from group A at end of 3 weeks was better than group B (p< 0.5); however BCVA at the end of 6 weeks were almost similar in both groups. CONCLUSION: Binocular iPad game is more efficacious than patching therapy in treating amblyopia, though in long run efficacy of both were almost similar. Binocular iPad game is as promising option as patching.
