Abstract
A 71-year-old female presented to the retina clinic with a profound drop in her left eye vision to hand movements on 1st post-operative day of phacoemulsification done under local anaesthesia. Based on clinical examination a diagnosis of post-peribulbar block- Central Retinal artery occlusion was made. Patient was managed with ocular massage, topical and oral anti-glaucoma medications and an immediate AC tap. Systemic evaluation and cardiology referral was done for assessing risk factors for CRAO. Patient was found to have dyslipidemia & treatment for same was started. CRAO is a rare complication after a cataract surgery. Occlusion of the central retinal artery can be caused by increased IOP secondary to globe compression by the anesthetic agent causing decrease in mean perfusion pressure. A high index of suspicion by the clinician can lead to early detection and prompt management of such patients.
