Abstract
Objectives: To study the variation in macular vessel density (VD), foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and retinal layer metrics, using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in COVID-19 patients post-recovery. And to assess the correlation of OCTA parameters with severity and duration of COVID-19 disease, steroid administration, and vaccination status.
Methods: Case-control study of 180 patients. OCTA parameters including VD, FAZ area, central sub-field thickness (CST) and retinal layer metrics were compared between cases and controls.
Results: FAZ and retinal layer metrics showed significant reduction in COVID-19 cases. Corticosteroid treatment resulted in significant decrease in VD. Significant correlation was noted among VD and FAZ with duration of illness.
Conclusion: OCTA showed alteration in retinal microvasculature and for the first time in segmentation layer metrics of COVID-19 patients.
