Abstract

Uveitis is usually caused by autoimmune or infectious causes, but sometimes systemic or topical drugs can lead to intraocular inflammation. More than 50% of all uveitis cases have no identifiable cause.

Drug-induced uveitis has been reported as one of the rare cause of uveitis with only few cases reported worldwide. We report a similar first case from India. A 24-year-old female presented with unilateral anterior uveitis following a 20-days oral intake of antipsychotic drug trifluoperazine. Her auto-immune and infective profile was unremarkable. Complete resolution of the uveitis was achieved with topical corticosteroids and cessation of trifluoperazine.

Early identification of the offending drug of uveitis is important as many a times stopping the drug along with concomitant use of corticosteroids result in better visual outcomes.
