Abstract
Title: Lincoff rule is not followed in pediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.
Aim: To validate Lincoff rule (LRs) in cases of pediatric RRD and identify cases where LR is not followed.
Methods: This was a retrospective study where 42 eyes of RRD were identified through surgery records. 37 eyes with pre operative documented Optos®️ images and with complete record of ocular examination and surgical findings were analysed. Validity of LR was analysed about location of retinal break by 2 independent observers.
Results: 37 eyes of 35 patients with a mean age of 11.23 years were analysed. 23 patients were boys. The location of retinal break as per the surgery noted corresponded to the LR in only 14 (38%) eyes. Absence of PVD was noted in 95% cases.
Conclusion: Though, LR is valid in most adult eyes with RRD, it has poor application in pediatric RRD. Absent PVD with unusual subretinal fluid flow is the most likely reason.
