Abstract
INTRODUCTION:
Meningioma is a benign neoplasm of meningo- epithelial cells of arachnoid mater. They are slow growing & mostly present in third to sixth decades of life. They constitute one third of all primary optic nerve tumors.
CASE REPORT:
A 45 year old male presented with prominence of right eye since 5 months & loss of vision since 4 months. He had a history of similar complaints 2 years ago for which surgery was done. On examination, eccentric proptosis of right eye with lagophthalmos & desiccated cornea were appreciated. On imaging, a multilobulated lesion encircling optic nerve with no intracranial extension was present. Total orbital exenteration with orbital socket reconstruction with temporalis flap was done. biopsy of specimen confirmed the diagnosis.
CONCLUSION:
The treatment method depends upon visual acuity at presentation. For preserved visual acuity, radiotherapy or excision is done. If vision cannot be preserved, enbloc excision is done to prevent recurrences.
