Abstract
PURPOSE:To study collagen fibril arrangement in post-LASIK ectatic corneas.
METHODS:35post-LASIK ectatic(PLE)eyes and 30post-LASIK healthy(PLH) eyes were imaged using ultra-high resolution Polarisation Sensitive OCT(PSOCT). Phase Retardation(PR) enface maps were generated from the posterior surface(11mm). Quantitative evaluation of PR was done with 5 annular zone.
RESULTS:PLH eyes had retardation maps similar to a normal virgin eye, wherein the retardation was least in centre and increasing in regular manner towards periphery. PLE corneas showed higher retardation in centre as compared to PLH eyes. Also, it showed abrupt changes in distribution of collagen from centre to periphery. Remarkably, PR maps of PLE indicated better collagen distribution than keratoconus eyes.
CONCLUSION:PSOCT clearly identifies differences in collagen fibril distribution between PLH and PLE eyes. PSOCT can thus become an integral part of screening patients with a high tendency to develop ectasia.
