Abstract
Purpose:To determine efficacy and safety of pediatric KXL.Methods:Prospective study of patients with progressive KC aged ≤ 18 years.56 eyes of 35 cases underwent epithelium-off KXL protocol.Visual acuity(VA), slit lamp examination, refraction,Pentacam reading of:keratometry(K), pachymetry, anterior and posterior elevations, progression indices, and Q values were noted.follow-up were scheduled on day 1,7,month 1,3, 6, 12 post procedure. Results: Statistically significant improvement of the mean aided VA,mean corneal astigmatism (P < .0001) was noted.Mean K max reading reduced from 49.57 ± 3.9 D preoperatively to 47.53 ± 3.9 D at 12 months post KXL.Mean max anterior elevation, average progression index and Q value had statistically significant improvement.2 cases had progression of KC. Complications encountered were sterile infiltrate and persistent haze. Conclusion:KXL is effective and efficacious in pediatric KC, however closer monitoring and follow up is critical to manage complications.
