Abstract
Aim:To determine the inter-observer variability in axial length(AL),anterior chamber depth (ACD)and lens thickness(LT)using ultrasound biometer(USB).Methods:In this prospective study,133 eyes were involved. Each underwent A-scan biometry using an USB (Sonomed).AL,ACDand LT were measured once by2observers for inter-observer variability. Results:The mean of ACD, AL and LTmeasured by observer1 were3.01mm(SD +/-0.42),22.51mm(SD+/-0.69) and 3.69mm(SD+/-0.62) and those measured by observer2 were 3.07mm(SD+/-0.40),22.69mm(SD+/-0.70)and3.79mm(SD+/-0.59)respectively.Intraclass correlation coefficient(r)was used for agreement between the 2observer’s measurements.Mean ACD and LTmeasurements by both observers had a moderate correlation(r=0.51&r= 0.64 respectively) mean ALmeasurements showed highly consistent reliability(r=0.85).Conclusion:ALwas most reliable out of the 3parameters,ACD,the least.USB offers observer-independent readings for ALthat is crucial for IOLcalculation.
