Abstract

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common epithelial neoplasm of the lacrimal gland in adults. The incidence is low in childhood leading to increased likelihood of misdiagnosis.

CASE REPORT:A 12 year child presented with painless, progressive non-pulsastile proptosis of the right eye for duration of twenty months.The ocular examination was otherwise within normal limit.CT orbit revealed well defined enhancing mass lesion arising from right lacrimal gland with adjacent bony scalloping suggestive of pleomorphic adenoma. Tumor resection was performed under general anesthesia,doing partial lateral orbitotomy. It was removed in toto doing a blunt dissection and the sample was sent for histopathological examination.The risk of recurrences and/or malignant transformation is dependent upon the completeness of excision.The child was discharged on postoperative day-6 and followed-up after 2 weeks.The diagnosis of lacrimal gland pleomorphic adenoma should be considered,even in pediatric age group.
