Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Cataract surgery has undergone significant evolution with reference to anaesthesia .Commonly used ocular anaesthesia technique is peribulbar and sub tenon’s anesthesia, newer modalities are topical anaesthesia and intracammeral anaesthesia . The purpose of the study is to compare the effectiveness of two methods of anaesthesia in terms of analgesia, orbital akinesia and complications undergoing manual small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification.
Study type: Prospective Randomized Control Trial. Groups Studied:Peribulbar group – 50 per group, Subtenon’s group – 50 per group .Period: September 2016 to April 2018
RESULTS: The analgesia provided in the peribulbar group was less when compared to sub- tenons group. There was no statically significant difference in complication rate and orbital akinesia in both the groups. Sub-tenon anaesthesia is safe and as effective as peribulbar anaesthesia and is more comfortable to the patient at the time of administration.
