Abstract
The straight prolene needle passed via the scleral bed like in the STD method, is docked in 26G needle in main wound, unlike in STD where it comes of Opposite scleral bed. It is passed twice via the eyelet of the SFIOL, docked in 26G needle under same scleral flap & tied. Same steps on other side. Our study of 25 eyes of 23 patients. 12 eyes underwent STD method and 13 had undergone MOD. M:F 13:12. None had diabetes or Hypertension. Average age 59 y. All surgeries performed by same surgeon & setup. Average surgical time for STD was 37 min and 30 sec, whereas in the MOD 24 min 0 s. Thus surgical time with the MOD technique is shortened by average of 13.5 min compared to the STD steps by same surgeon. Post-op all SFIOLs were well centered and stable. No significant difference in corneal edema and inflammatory reaction between two groups. A simple modification helped reduce surgical time, in turn reduce surgical trauma and improve results.
