Abstract
Methodology: In this video, we have described various types of eye rubbing (direct & indirect) which aid in the diagnosis. Detailed history taking and demonstration of eye rubbing in the OPD can give a clue to the diagnosis. “Keratoconus” is the direct consequence of mechanical trauma to the cornea by chronic and incessant eye rubbing, resulting in the progressive deformation and thinning of the corneal wall – hallmarks of the disease.
Conclusion: Hence, all eye rubbing is not the same. Degree of effect of eye rubbing depends on the period and force applied. It is recommended to avoid eye rubbing to prevent keratoconus. It is essential to increase awareness among the individuals about the risk of eye rubbing as most of the patients are performing it as a habit.
