Abstract
We present to you a video of this novel technique in a 9 year old female with complicated cataract, retinal detachment and choroidal coloboma where we performed lens aspiration through an anterior approach followed by vitrectomy.
We used the micro RF cautery tip provided for anterior capsulotomy for the purpose and obtained a result similar to a capsulorhexis. Such an approach could revolutionize what is arguably one of the most important steps of cataract surgery and increase the ease as well as improve control over the dimensions of the rhexis. It is a comparatively inexpensive option as compared to femtosecond laser included in a modern phaco or vitrectomy setup.
