Abstract

BACKGROUND:Complicated cataract is a common complication in patients of uveitis resulting from chronic intraocular inflammation and corticosteroid usage. The intraoperative challenges include small pupils, posterior synechiae, pupillary membranes, atrophic iris and fibrotic anterior capsule. Postoperative complication includes recurrence of inflammation, posterior capsular opacification, cystoid macular edema and secondary glaucoma

METHOD: Presenting a video on surgical techniques for complicated cataract in patients with uveitis having posterior synechiae, secclusio pupillae and occlusio pupillae. The surgical approach includes membranectomy and synechiolysis with forceps, mechanical pupillary dilatation with viscoelastic substance and cataract extraction with IOL insertion

CONCLUSION: Pre-operative evaluation and planned surgical techniques provides good visual and surgical outcome with minimal complications
