Abstract

A 23 year old female patient went to the hill station and wiped her face with a towel on a windy evening following which had pain and redness in the left eye with diminution of vision. Slit lamp examination showed multiple high linear foreign bodies in the corneal stroma which were removed and they were identified as caterpillar hair.

She continue to have recurrent vitrifies on stopping steroids.UBM showed multiple high reflective echoes in the deep sclera and pars plana area.

She under 360 degree laser barrage followed by pars plana lensectomy and vitrectomy with removal of multiple caterpillar hair from the pars plana exudates and peripheral retina

This video highlights the importance of UBM and identification and removal of these hair which release toxins causing persistent inflammation and may lead to phthysis bulbi if not removed
