Abstract
The effect of cataract surgery incisions on corneal curvature was studied on 200 patients of senile cataract, programmed for surgery. In these patients, the placement of incision was decided by the steeper corneal meridian, whether superior or temporal and then patients of these two groups were randomized for frown or chevron/ V-shape incision. Temporal incisions resulted into lesser post-operative induced astigmatism than the superior incisions. Among superior incisions chevron/V-shaped scleral incision produced lesser post-operative induced astigmatism than frown shaped scleral incision.By proper selection of incision technique and its placement, it is thus possible to tailor the post-operative astigmatism. Decreased astigmatism and a more stable wound leads to
better uncorrected visual acuity, faster and full optical rehabilitation of the patient postoperatively.
