Abstract
Aim: to evaluate the dropout rates and reasons for dropout among cataract surgical patients. Design: A hospital-based retrospective study. Methodology: the study was done from January to march 2021. Total 2090 patients were advised for cataract surgery. Who have not undergone cataract surgery till June 2021 was considered as Drop out cases. Type of cataract, surgeon advised, causes of drop out were analyzed. Results: dropout rate was high, 57.67%. Among them 35.9% patients had poor vision below 3/36 and 39.4% patients had relatively better vision on advised eye. Main reasons for drop out are educational and socioeconomic status, knowledge, belief, attitude towards surgery and lack of physical fitness. Conclusion: Dropout is high among patients from lower socioeconomic group. These findings have great implications in planning future studies to improve among patients in the study area. Providing proper information to the patients can help in reducing the treatment dropout rates
