Abstract

Orbital cellulitis is inflammation of eye tissues (soft tissues and fat) behind the orbital septum. It is most commonly caused by an acute spread of infection into the eye socket from either the adjacent sinuses or through the blood. It may also occur after trauma. Sensory exotropia post orbital cellulitis is a rare phenomenon. It occurs due to loss of fusion secondary to visual deprivation or long standing poor vision in one eye. Orbital cellulitis caused lid edema because of which child was not able to open eyes and hence could not see for few days. When swelling decreased parents noticed deviation of that eye. The child improved on his own in few weeks and is orthophoric now. Sensory deviations may occur post lid diseases where fusion is broken.
