Abstract
To evaluate morphology of GCC & functional outcome of PPV+ ILM peel with macular abrasion with Tano’s scraper for different stages of idiopathic MH.
Retrospective study of 33eyes with IMH, divided into 3 groups; Stage I, II & IV.Gentle & vigorous macular abrasion was performed for stage II & IV pt’s respectively. BCVA, GCC thickness & Photopic CS was determined pre-op, at 1 & 3 months.
Closure of MH was achieved in all patients. Improvement in BCVA was statistically significant in 3 groups (P <0.01).CS progressively improved in all patients.(P<0.01) Reduction in GCC thickness in follow-up was 34%-42% of the pre-op. On comparing mean GCC thickness of operated & healthy eyes, it was not statistically significant in stage I patients. However, in stage II and IV, was statistically significant with P value <0.05 and P <0.01 respectively. Combining ILM peeling with macular abrasion in advanced stages of MH may facilitate its closure without significantly affecting the functional outcome.
