Abstract
Herpes Zoster is a neurocutaneous disease caused by Varicella zoster virus (VZV). It involves the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve. It results from the reactivation of the latent VZV due to diminished virus specific and cell mediated immunity.
Here we present a rare case of 34 years old male who presented with rashes in the skin of left side of forehead and left upper eyelid along with pain, redness and blurring of vision in the left eye. On examination visual acuity in left eye was 5/60 and IOP was 28 mmHg.Slit lamp examination revealed conjunctival congestion, hazy cornea with keratic precipitates on the corneal endothelium. The anterior chamber showed multiple cells.
He was treated with topical steroid, topical antiglaucoma drug, topical antiviral and cycloplegic.
Timely diagnosis of herpes zoster Ophthtalmicus and its early recognition of its associated complications is critical in limiting the visual disability.
