Abstract
Purpose- To determine the incidence of posterior dislocation of lens fragment during phacoemulsification Vs SICS. Methods- Data of patients receiving PPV for retained lens fragments from January 2016-2020 was retrospectively analysed for demographics, nuclear grade, type of surgery/drop, IOL placement & visual outcomes. Results- The mean age of the 172 eyes/patients was 62.55(9.71)years, with 53.4% males. Cataract was >NS4 in 69.8%, with PXF 11%. Phaco was done in 124(73%) with cortex drop in 71% & nucleus in 29%. SICS was done in 48 (27%) with 48% cortex & 52% nucleus drop. Complication occurred in 27% during phaco, 58.7% during nucleus delivery, 8.7% I/A & 5% nucleus prolapse. IOL was placed in sulcus in 123(71.5%) (Phaco83/SICS40) and SFIOL in 32(18.6%) (Phaco29/SICS2). UCVA & BCVA both improved, with final BCVA of 6/9. Conclusion- Cortex drop is the more common and IOL can be safely placed in sulcus in cases with intact rhexis. Judicious management can give good visual outcomes.
