Abstract
Objectives:To study the clinical features, visual outcome, management and ocular complications of ball-related ocular injuries
Methodology: A retrospective case series of 100 patients who sustained a ball related injury. Presenting visual acuity(VA), ocular examination & IOP was noted. Patients were treated and followed up
Results: Most of the patients were men < 30 yrs of age. The most common injury was with a tennis ball. The findings were, AC inflammation in 69 eyes, 27 had hyphema, commotio retina in 55, sphincter tears in 26, vitreous hemorrhage in 18, and retinal detachment in 7. Majority of the patients had good corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) on the last visit (≥20/60) &16 had moderate (≥20/200-≤20/60). The final visual outcome correlated with the initial presenting VA Conclusion: Despite cricket being a hugely popular sport in India, ball-related eye injuries are under reported. Our study shows fairly good prognosis but larger numbers could implicate a higher morbidity
