Abstract
PURPOSE: To assess the knowledge, attitude and practice among patients regarding hypertension and hypertensive retinal diseases.
METHODS AND METERIALS: A cross sectional analytical study of 100 hypertensive patients for a period of 3months was carried out. Patients with Diabetes and Dyslipidemia were excluded. Suitably designed KAP questionnaire was performed and responses were analysed using IBMSPSS20.
RESULTS: There were 71 males 29 females with mean age of 55.7 years (range 34-79). 76% patients were educated more than 10th grade. KAP scores were favourable with a mean score of 14.87 +/- 2.5 (P = 0.25), 5.54 +/- 1.5 (P = 0.10) and 5.46 +/- 1.3 (P= 0.13) respectively.The study showed good knowledge but lack of applying into practice.
CONCLUSION: Education and awareness plays a key role in battling hypertensive eye disease. Repeated reinforcement and motivation will bring about a positive change in attitude and practices
