Abstract
Mucormycosis, an aggressive, angioinvasive fungal infection, predominantly affects people with Diabetes, Malignancy & other Immunocompromised states. During the 2nd wave of COVID 19 pandemic, there was a marked surge of Mucormycosis & the most common form reported was Rhino Orbital Cerebral Mucormycosis. Most common presentation of ROCM is Orbital Cellulitis of varying degrees. Most patients with severe Orbital Cellulitis presented with vision loss & the common causes identified were Central Retinal Artery Occlusion & Compressive Optic Neuropathy. We report a case of 40 year old Male, recently diagnosed diabetic, with history of recent infection with Covid 19, who presented with Unilateral Orbital Cellulitis with profound loss of vision & was Radiologically & Histopathologically proven as Stage 4 ROCM. His Fundus findings were suggestive of Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy. AION in a middle aged male, as a cause of vision loss in ROCM is very rare .Hence reported for its rarity.
