Abstract
A 20 year old male presented with painless subacute loss of vision in left eye for past 5 days. He was admitted in a private hospital for fever 2 weeks before and was diagnosed with dengue on dengue IgM and IgG serology. His platelet counts were 80000/l at nadir. His BCVA was 6/6 in R/E and 3/60 in L/E. B/L anterior segment examination was normal. On fundus examination, R/E showed minimal vitritis with single retinitis patch inferonasal to disc while L/E had dense vitritis with multiple retinitis patches with intraretinal hemorrhages involving the macular area. OCT macula was normal in R/E while left eye had increased central macular thickness and hyperreflectivity of inner layers of retina. Following comprehensive evaluation, a diagnosis of dengue retinopathy was made. Though dengue retinopathy is self resolving, but it was macula threatening in left eye so patient was treated with oral steroids with gradual tapering. After 4 weeks of treatment his BCVA in left eye improved to 6/18.
