Abstract
Aim: To study idiopathic epiretinal membrane(iERM) and its novel association with hyper reflective foci(HF)
It was a retrospective observational study of patients who underwent surgery for primary ERM between January 2018 and January 2020. All participants had undergone SS OCT using Topcon Swept Source DRI OCT Triton Plus™. The radial scan protocol with 12x12mm centred on the macula was taken for all the patients. OCT images were graded and HF counted by two independent assessors in all the 12 scans and an average of the two readings was taken
Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 and a p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: We found that the number of HF increases with the grade of ERM. This is in correlation with the fact that HF are postulated to be a product of degeneration and inflammation. Thus, increase in number of HF correspond to more severe grades of the disease Conclusion: Our study showed a novel association of HF with severe ERM
