Abstract
Purpose:To assess the efficacy of intense regulated pulse light therapy(IRPL)in prevention of worsening of pre-existing MGD related Dry Eyes, post LASIK
Methods:This prospective, interventional study included 50 eyes of 25 patients having MGD associated dry eye, undergoing LASIK surgery. In addition to Medical Management, one eye of all the patients was treated with Warm Compresses whereas the other was subjected to two sittings of IRPL. Patients were evaluated for Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI)scoring; Tear Break Up Time(TBUT);Schirmer Test(ST)& Lipid Layer Thickness(LLT) using Ocular Surface Analyzer at 1 week,1 month & 3 months post LASIK
Results:As compared to the conservatively treated eyes, eyes which underwent IRPL showed significant improvement in TBUT(p<0.01),OSDI scores(p<0.05) & LLT(p<0.015)but no significant improvement in ST(p=0.83) Conclusion:Preoperative IRPL in MGD related Dry Eye patients is an effective treatment modality to alleviate Post Lasik Dry Eye Symptoms
