Abstract
AIM: To evaluate the association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)and thyroid eye disease (TED) and its effect on disease activity. METHODS: A prospective case-control study was conducted from January 2020 to December 2020. All TED patients were evaluated clinically according to International Thyroid Eye Disease Society Vision Inflammation Strabismus Appearance system and also screened for OSA using Snoring Tired Observed Pressure (STOP)-Bang survey. In control group, age, gender matched without TED were screened for OSA. RESULTS: 50 TED and 116 control without TED were included in respective groups. 31(62%) patients in case and 39 (33.42%) patients in control group were having high risk of OSA, and this difference is statistically significant (P=0.001). On linear regression, between OSA score and activity score of TED showed significant association at 10% level (P=0.079). CONCLUSION: Our study showed that OSA is significantly associated with TED patients and disease activity.
