Abstract
Aim:
To study the effect of lubricating eyedrops on the keratometric values taken in patients with dry eye disease and normal individuals.
Methods:
A 1 year prospective, comparative study assessing the keratometric (K) values of patients selected for cataract surgery. K values were taken at 3 time points pre operatively i.e. before instillation of lubricating drops, 30 seconds and 1 min after instillation. Tear Film Breakup Time was performed and patients were divided into 2 groups Group 1(n=20) – Dry eye and Group 2(n=20) -Normal eye . K values were repeated in the morning before surgery for both the groups.
Conclusion:
Patients with dry eye showed significant variation in keratometric readings before and after instillation of lubricating eyedrops in comparison with patients in the normal group.
