Abstract
PURPOSETo analyse outcomes of DALK for paediatric keratoconus in patients with VKC
METHODS Retrospective analysis was done for 10 eyes of patients aged 9-16 years(mean 13.5years).DALK was performed following a decrease in visual acquity less than 20/200. The Reviewed parameters included duration of follow up post DALK, best corrected visual acuity(BSCVA), refractive error, complications, cumulative graft survivalRESULTSFive eyes had giant papillae preoperatively managed with topical 0.1% tacrolimus.Big bubble technique was used to perform pneumatic dissection. Mean postoperative BSCVA was 0.3 log MAR at the end of a follow up period of 36.4 months and the rejection free graft survival rates were 100%. Vascularization of suture tracts and stitch abscesses were encountered more frequently in eyes with severe VKC
CONCLUSIONDALK is effective and safe for the long term management of such cases. However, a close follow up is needed especially for the ones with severe VKC preoperatively
