Abstract
Present study describes application of teleophthalmology to screen and treat patients in rural areas that lack access to eye care professionals. We conducted this 6 month observational study.
Results: Out of total 1000 tele consultations, 30.1% had cataract, 29% had refractive error, 9.7% had conjunctivitis, 9.7% were follow up cases of cataract and pterygium surgeries, 5.4% had lid and adnexal disease including stye, chalazion, blepharitis, 7.7% had corneal disease, 1.9% of patients had retinal pathology while 1.7% had glaucoma. 4.8% of patients had no ophthalmic abnormality.
Conclusion: Teleconsultation saved travel cost, time and effort and proved very effective especially for rural and underserved areas. This pandemic has accelerated adoption of teleophthalmology which will play an integral role in providing high-quality efficient care in the coming future.
