Abstract
Smartphone fundus photography has grown by leaps and bounds over past 5 years. There have been several designs of smartphone fundus cameras – be it open source, commercial, Do-It-Yourself, 3D printed, with Artificial Intelligence and more. We have designed, made and used many of these for the past few years and decided that they can be made even more portable – to fit inside a pocket like a smartphone. This would enable better usage of smartphone fundoscopy even by junior postgraduate residents. A device which is too big to fit in a pocket would need an extra bag to safely carry and may get lost or forgotten in the midst of a busy duty.
The authors used the technology of 3D printing and Computer Aided Design to build a novel, innovative design that can easily take good fundus photos, while also being capable of folding into a trouser, churidhar, or doctor’s coat pocket. This will revolutionize how ophthalmologists worldwide view and document retina and enable easy teleconsultations.
