Abstract
PURPOSE:The purpose of this study is to evaluate genotypic association of WDR36 polymorphism (rs10038177,rs1971050) with POAG .
METHODS:A case control study enrolling 210 subjects (105 POAG and 105 controls) was performed who underwent complete ocular examination. Peripheral blood samples were collected in EDTA tubes, DNA was extracted using the genomic DNA extraction. Genotypic study was performed by polymerase chain reaction for WDR36 rs10038177, rs1971050 . The amplification products were digested with 10 u of restriction enzyme AIuI and ran on 3% agarose gel.
RESULTS:Frequency of allele C (rs1971050), was significantly lower in cases as compared to controls(p<0.001).On multivariate analysis, SBP, DBP and diabetic history (P=0.001) showed significant association with POAG. CONCLUSION: The WDR36 polymorphism rs 10038177 significantly increased the risk of development of POAG and so should be evaluated to segregate people at increased risk so that timely treatment can be started.
