Abstract
AIM:This study was designed to investigate association between Apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in cross sectional study of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
METHODS:A total of 23 patients with POAG and 27 controls were investigated. All subjects underwent full clinical and ophthalmological evaluation.Venous blood samples of patients and controls were collected.Centrifugation and isolation of DNA was done.PCR-RFLP was performed to know genotypes of APOE polymorphism
RESULTS: The amplified product were checked under the 2% Agarose gel electrophoresis and restriction digestion product by enzyme HhaI were checked using 3.5% Agarose gel electrophoresis. We were unable to detect any polymorphism in exon4 region of APOE gene in patient affected with Primary open angle glaucoma.
CONCLUSION:Our study found no link between polymorphisms in APOE gene and POAG in eastern Uttar Pradesh & eastern Bihar subjects.
