Abstract
Aim: To study RNFL changes in affected and normal eye in retinal vascular occlusions.
Materials and Methods: Observational study. Duration:1.5 yrs. U/L diagnosed cases of BRVO and CRVO were taken. Patients with glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and ARMD were excluded. Complete ocular examination was done along with SD OCT (ZEISS CIRRUS 500 HD) in all 3 visits.
Results:43 cases (31 BRVO and 12 CRVO) and 40 normal controls were taken. 72.09% eyes in cases showed a decrease in RNFL thickness in fellow eye compared to affected eye. The reduction of RNFL thickness in fellow eye was seen more in CRVO than BRVO and controls. On follow up it was seen 54.83% cases of BRVO and 58.33% cases of CRVO developed RVO in fellow eye.
Conclusion: Reduced RNFL thickness may be used as a predictor for development of retinal vein occlusion.
