Abstract
A 40 year old female presented with right eye irritation and redness since 2 months. She gave history of sudden loss of vision in the right eye one year back for which she underwent pars plana vitrectomy and endolaser with silicone oil insertion. On ocular examination , the BCVA was 6/60 and 6/9 in the right and left eye respectively. The right eye appeared to have sub-conjunctival globular cysts scattered around the limbus along with diffuse conjunctival congestion, on fundus examination the retina appeared to be attached along with laser marks in the peri-papillary area. The left eye appeared to be within normal limits. A conjunctival biopsy was taken and the histopathological specimen showed lipogranulomatous growth, confirming the presence of silicone oil in the sub-conjunctival space, which is an uncommon complication in today’s day and age yet prevalent. A careful study of such cases can help the surgeon discuss the risk factors and prevention of this complication.
