Abstract
AIM:To highlight the need for early treatment in a case of distichiasis.METHODS: Reporting a case of isolated congenital distichiasis resulting in vision threatening complications in a tertiary eye hospital.RESULTS:A 78 year old female presented with gradual diminution of vision in both eyes since 2years.Patient had recurrent episodes of foreign body sensation,watering,redness since childhood.On examination,patient had spheroidal degeneration in right eye & pterygium in left eye with distichiasis in eyelids of both eyes.She had undergone epilation multiple times in both eyes,but with no relief.Systemic evaluation was normal.At our centre,patient was treated by electrolysis for distichiasis in all four eyelids, following which her symptoms of pain & redness were greatly relieved.She has been planned for keratoplasty for visual rehabilitation at a later date.CONCLUSION :This case highlights need of treatment for distichiasis at initial stages in order to prevent blinding complications.
