Abstract
Introduction- Graphite pencil tip injury can manifest as asymptomatic cases or complications, endangering vision and causing severe inflammation and structural damage in the eye, requiring immediate surgical intervention.
Three out of our four cases had corneal damage following pencil tip injury. Out of these three cases, one was a five-year-old girl with graphite particles in the inferior angles and self-sealed corneal tear, and she presented 6 months following injury. While the other two cases(15 years and 6 years old boys) presented within a day following injury and suffered only superficial corneal injury with graphite particles embedded in the anterior stroma. UCVA was 6/12 and 6/9 respectively. None of these patients required active surgical intervention and parents were counselled regarding it.
The fourth case had a scleral tear with no intraocular graphite particle, on an emergency basis scleral tear repair was done and anatomy of the globe was retained with vision 6/6.
