Abstract
Study to assess correlation between preoperative anterior chamber (AC) parameters Angle opening distance 500(AOD500), Anterior chamber angle (ACA), Trabecular iris surface area (TISA500), Anterior chamber depth(ACD), and Lens Vault(LV) with change in IOP after phacoemulsification surgery. Hospital based, prospective, observational study. Study parameters measured preoperatively, at 1 and 3 months post-operatively.
A significant decrease of IOP at 3 months, with significant increase in angle parameters AOD 500, ACA, TISA 500 and ACD. Pre-operative IOP, LV and AOD 500 had a strong correlation with IOP change. Pre-operative TISA 500 had moderate correlation with IOP change, while ACA and ACD had weak correlation with IOP change.
The AOD 500, ACA, TISA 500, ACD increases significantly post-phacoemulsification, caused by backward shift of the iris lens complex, which leads to angle widening and deepening leading to IOP lowering. LV and AOD 500 change determine the final postoperative IOP.
