Abstract
Purpose: To analyse and compare the efficacy of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide and bevacizumab by measuring visual acuity and central foveal thickness in treating chronic DME refractory to grid photocoagulation in pseudo phakic eyes
Materials and methods: Prospective study on 126 eyes with chronic DME that were segregated in two groups. Group one of 63 eyes, received IVTA and another group of 63 eyes received intravitreal BVB. Patients followed up for 24 weeks.
Results: The mean % improvement in mean Logmar BCVA from baseline to 24 week was 25% in the TA group and 12% in the BVB group. The difference between them was statistically significant, p = 0.003 <0.01. The mean % improvement in CFT from baseline to 24 week was 21% in the TA group and 10%` in the BVB group. The difference between them was statistically significant, p = 0.0005 <0.01. Conclusion: The efficacy of TA was found to be superior over BVB as evidenced by better improvement in VA and better reduction in CFT.
