Abstract

We present an interesting but very rare phenomenon of Solar retinopathy in a Schizophrenic patient on Olanzapine for past 10yrs. Defective vision of both eyes for the past one year with BCVA 6/18 in both eyes. Colour vision testing revealed Blue colour defect and Pt non cooperative for Macular fields evaluation. He gave history of sun gazing for the past one and half years for around 3 to 5 minutes every day regularly .Fundus demonstrated significant areas of yellowish lesion over fovea with absent foveal reflex . OCT revealed significant disruption of ellipsoid layer of foveal region, IS OS junction seperation with minimal Sub RPE fluid of both eyes suggestive of solar retinopathy.FA shows subfoveal focal hyper fluorescent starting from early phase and persistently increasing in intensity with size normal. The case is presented for its rarity and to emphasise the need to spread awareness among people regarding the consequences of unprotected sun gazing as much as Eclipse watching.
