Abstract
Purpose: Develop & validate a mobile app, which can aid in community eye screening by volunteers in remote areas.
Methods: A mobile app-based outreach program where trained volunteers visit patient’s homes, collect patient information on mobile app,
Residents review asynchronously and make referral and diagnostic design based on the need.
Patients are then referred to eye camp or hospital for ophthalmologist review.
Results: Our study is an ongoing project with an estimated sample size of 1848. with interim analysis of 434 patients screened, 135(31.1%) underwent surgery, 59(13.5%) referred for speciality opinion with a 93% Diagnostic, 87% Referral Decision concordance between In-Person & asynchronous ophthalmologist, 95% visual acuity concordance between Volunteers and Ophthalmologist,
Conclusion: Outreach programme by mobile app is beneficial in multiple ways as it is reachable to remote areas, better case detection, targeted approach, predictable case load and is economical.
