Abstract
Specialist eye care services are inaccessible to most diabetics in rural areas.Teleophthalmology played a major role for screening & treatment of DR patients in Rural population in this present study.10,008 eyes of 5004 known diabetic patients registered in NCD clinics were screened at CHC by trained PMOAs using nonmydriatic fundus camera.Fundus photos were uploaded using online cloud based software & were analysed/ graded by Ophthalmologist at Base hospital with the help of Teleophthalmology.Fundus photographs in 12.31% eyes were not gradable because of media opacity.98 % patients had type II DM,74.24% had DM for >5 years,88.6% were on oral drugs & only 49.5% had control of blood sugar. The prevalence of DR was 7.61% of these 12% had STDR. 381 DR patients were referred & managed by LASER/Intravitreal Injection.Regular screening of diabetic patients with portable fundus camera & use of Tele-Ophthalmology can help in early diagnosis & prevent blindness from STDR in Rural population.
