Abstract
PURPOSE: To determine various causes of complete vision loss in covid associated mucormycosis
METHOD: Prospective Observational study conducted in tertiary care hospital between may 1 2021 to July 30th 2021
RESULTS
The study included 62 patients diagnosed with covid associated mucormycosis who had no perception of light. Of them 46(74.19%) were male and 16(25.8) were female. 37(59.6%) patients had vision loss in right eye, 22(35.4%) had vision loss in left eye and 3 (3.5%) patients had vision loss in both eyes. All patients had proptosis, ptosis and complete ophthalmoplegia. Fundus examination was done on all patients and 69.3% patients had CRAO, 22.5% patients had ophthalmic artery occlusion and 3.25% patients had optic disc edema.
CONCLUSION:
Severe vision loss can result in significant ocular morbidity amongst patients with CAM. The vision loss associated with CAM was found to be irreversible. However only three patients had bilateral vision loss.
