Abstract
Aims: To detect fungal pathogens on direct smear by smartphone mounted foldscope (FS)
Methods: The study will represent data of direct smear examinations (Lactophenol Cotton blue & potassium hydroxide) to detect fungal pathogens from microbiology samples of clinically suspected fungal keratitis (FK) cases. Diagnostic utility of FS to be compared with compound light microscope (CLM).
Results: Data collected will be used for statistical analysis for comparison of CLM & FS imaging.
Conclusions: Direct smear can be an early & sensitive measure to diagnose fungal keratitis, other than clinical suspicion. Low-cost diagnostic device like smartphone mounted foldscope may serve the purpose for direct smear assessment for FK in absence of CLM & other higher diagnostic modalities in resource constrained settings.
