Abstract

PURPOSE: To report a case of OSSN presenting as a first sign of underlying HIV infection.

METHOD: A 42 year old male presented with progressively increasing white mass in RE since 10 months. Examination revealed a localized limbal gelatinous mass with corneal extension with feeder vessel. Suspecting ocular malignancy, further investigations revealed patient was HIV positive.

RESULTS: After an initial non response to topical Interferon (INF) α2b the patient underwent (RE) Excision biopsy with ‘No touch technique’ with Cryotherapy with Amniotic membrane grafting. Histopathology revealed well differentiated Squamous cell carcinoma. Postoperatively started on INFα2b e/d QDS. No recurrence noted upto 6 months.

CONCLUSION: OSSN can be the first presenting feature in a patient with underlying HIV infection. Surgical excision of localized lesions with adjuvant INFα2b therapy can help in resolution and prevention of recurrence.
