Abstract
Aim: To report clinical features, management and outcome of a cluster outbreak of post-cataract surgery Pseudomonas stutzeri endophthalmitis. Methods: 14 patients with acute postoperative endophthalmitis underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with intraocular antibiotics (IOAB) or vitreous tap with IOAB as per severity. Vitreous aspirates and environmental surveillance samples were cultured for organism isolation. Results: 8 females and 6 males with a mean age of 62.14 ± 8.08 years. Presenting signs :corneal folds (100%), hypopyon (57.1%), fibrin on lens surface (50%). 10 patients had mild presentation and underwent vitreous tap with IOAB. 4 had severe presentation, underwent PPV with IOAB. Pseudomonas stutzeri was isolated from all the samples. 6 eyes had more than 1 intervention. Favorable outcome in 12 eyes, 1eye went into phthisis. Conclusion: Majority of the patients had mild presentation and had good outcomes with antibiotics and surgery.
