Abstract
We conducted a prospective study on 867 preterm babies admitted in NICU in a tertiary care centre in South India over 3 years. They were screened for ROP from third week of life.ROP was diagnosed based on ICROP classification and classified as Type 1 and Type 2 ROP for management based on ETROP classification.202 babies (23.3%) developed ROP- 37.3%, 47.2% and 15.5% had type 1, type 2 and mild ROP respectively. Involution of ROP was seen at an earlier age in type 2 babies (PCA=46.6 weeks, p=0.02).We studied the association of birth weight,GA, prolonged mechanical ventilation, blood transfusions, blood disorders, sepsis,PDA,intraventricular haemorrhage and history of any surgery during NICU stay between the groups. On multiple logistic regression analysis, history of blood transfusions was statistically significant in type 1 ROP babies(p=0.018). The purpose of this study is to determine the range of post conceptional age ROP regresses as various parameters may influence their involution.
